Fareed Zakaria, Stupid Motherfucker

War supporter Fareed Zakaria, pictured above with manicial skull stare, writes that us silly libtards have it all wrong terrorism isn't on the rise it's declining.

You know that we are living in scary times. Terrorist groups are metastasizing all over the globe. Al Qaeda has re-established its bases in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Hizbullah, Hamas and other radical Islamic groups are gaining strength. You hear this stuff all the time, on television and on the campaign trail. Amid the din, it's hard to figure out the facts. Well, finally we have a well-researched, independent analysis of the data relating to terrorism, released last week by Canada's Simon Fraser University. Its findings will surprise you.
No, I really don't think they will. Let me guess, terrorist attacks are down, because we aren't including Iraq and we are going to reclassify what a terrorist attack is.
The Simon Fraser study points out that all three of these data sets [NCTC,MIPT,START] have a common problem. They count civilian casualties from the war in Iraq as deaths caused by terrorism. This makes no sense. Iraq is a war zone, and as in other war zones around the world, many of those killed are civilians... ...Including Iraq massively skews the analysis.
I would imagine.

Look, jackass, may I call you jackass? I am not the least bit surprised that terrorist attacks are down everywhere except Iraq. We are focusing on counter-terrorism. Banks and financial organizations are helping watch the flow of money and law enforcement is coordinating globally. Immigration officials aren't simply rubber stamping visas. We managed to track down some of the ring leaders in spite of the Bush administrations best efforts to antagonize everyone one on the planet, running terrorist cells is still something left to a small core group of very unhappy people and we caught a bunch of them.

None of this surprises me.
Why have you not heard about studies like this or the one from Simon Fraser, which was done by highly regarded scholars, released at the United Nations and widely discussed in many countries around the world—from Canada to Australia? Because it does not fit into the narrative of fear that we have all accepted far too easily.
A narrative of fear you helped spread, a narrative you helped form in order to scare people into supporting the Iraq war. Now you use Newsweek to set up your straw man that everybody is saying terrorism is on the rise. If memory serves, the Bush administration's talking points are that Bush has been keeping us safer, and we are fighting them over there [Iraq] so we don't have to fight them over here. It's unclear what the long term impact on terrorism the Iraq war is going to have, in fact it's impossible to know that now. So I am not sure who you think is running around saying terrorism is on the rise. All this is about is trying to justify your war, trying to say that we stopped terrorism through our bold stance against the brown man. It's you trying to get back into the party by pretending you are so serious a person, analyzing terrorism, and letting us rubes know what's going on. Sorry Fareed, that spot doesn't go away.
Out, damn'd spot! out, I say!
—One; two: why, then 'tis time to do't.
—Hell is murky.—Fie, my lord, fie, a soldier, and afeard? What need we fear who knows it, when none can call our pow'r to accompt?
—Yet who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him?
Do me a favor Fareed, stop trying to pretend that you understand anything about terrorism, or foreign policy. You are just one more pro-war propagandist who doesn't know shit. Certainly doesn't understand the impact of your asinine scribblings.

Look, Fareed, what's your point? Terrorism is down? Okay. There is at least 1/4 million dead in Iraq. The middle east itself is a much more violent place than it's ever been. We are running our own torture gulags and we are burning through 3 trillion dollars, but terrorism is down. Great, thanks, keep those updates coming. Stupid motherfucker.

Bush's Midas Touch

A dark pool of dried blood and a fallen red scarf mark the place where Ronak, who had fled to a woman's shelter in the Kurdish city of Sulaymaniyah when she was accused of adultery by her husband, was shot three times by a man hiding on the roof of a nearby building.

The first known case of sex recorded on a mobile leading to murder was in 2004. Film of a boy making love with a 17-year-old girl circulated in the Kurdish capital, Arbil. Two days later she was killed by her family and a week later he was murdered by his. -- The Independent
They are burning women alive in Iraq. Pouring paraffin over them and letting the die a horrible death because they have had sex. Shaira law is spreading in Basra and in other areas of southern Iraq. After decades there are men fighting in the streets in Lebanon again. Turkey has all but permanently invaded northern Iraq. The fallacy that Bush has made America safer is only valid if you don't include losing New Orleans or protecting our civil liberties. Or if you believe that "hasn't happened yet" equals "not going to." But, it is extremely clear that the middle east is not only a much more dangerous place, it has descended into religious terror and violence across the region.

Remember when our foreign policy was all about maintaining peace in the region? Remember fears of setting the middle east ablaze? Like many things from the reality based community that concept went out the window with reverse midas Bush. I am sure that Israel thought our invading Iraq and posting 100,000 troops next door in Iraq was a good idea, but as more and more goes wrong in more and more places, I suspect that that feeling of safety is running on par with Bush's polling numbers.

Our inability to win the "peace" as the pentagon's Orwellian phrase goes is a major factor in this. This is now beyond a military solution and has been for years. Having less people with guns around is a good first step. Nobody notices the sniper on the roof across from the womens shelter because that's normal.

Ships Not Responsible for Internet Cable Cutting

Ships didn't cut cable, as 3rd cut.

No ships were present when two marine cables carrying much of the Middle East's internet traffic were severed, Egypt's Ministry of Communications has said, contrary to earlier speculation about the causes of the cut.

The ministry had originally stated that a ship dropping its anchor on the two key cables was most likely responsible for Wednesday's cut in service that robbed Egypt, Saudi Arabia and India of most of their internet connections.

"A marine transport committee investigated the traffic of ships in the area, 12 hours before and after the malfunction, where the cables are located to figure out the possibility of being cut by a passing vessel and found out there were no passing ships at that time," said the statement.

These outages caught my attention before, the 3rd one cut should be setting off alarm bells at Langley...

FBI Tortures Innocent Civilians

This is what happens when the children take over the country. I swear, all these people shat their pants on 9/11 and never recovered. The stench is becoming unbearable.

Right after 9/11 this Egyptian fella, Abdallah Higazy, was staying at a hotel in New York. The hotel was evacuated because everyone was panicking of security. The maid found a radio in the closet. A UHF radio, the type used to speak to aircraft and listen to the exciting jibber jabber that goes on at air shows.

The hotel contacts the FBI field office in New York. They track down and arrest Higazy for being involved with the 9/11 hijackings. They decide the only way to found out the truth is to torture the guy. They work on this guy relentlessly. They tell him that his family will be tortured in Egypt. They mention torture similar to what the Saddam Hussein conducts. (I thought that was a nice touch.) Higazy knowing full well the extent of the fun and games that Egyptian Security Forces will go to he decides to spare his family the pliers and blowtorch treatment and confesses.

Chalk one up for the FBI, nice work boys! They probably were falling all over themselves deciding who would get to be the one who told President Bush they caught a dirty stinking terrorist, right there in New York City.

Meanwhile, time passes, congress starts ripping the constitution into shreds with the worthless PATRIOT Act. The hotel gets a phone call. A commercial airline pilot was staying at the hotel and is trying to track down something he left behind. His air to ground radio. Do they have anything like that in the lost and found box?

Oops. Sorry about that. Good thing they didn't actually send the goons for his wife and kids in Egypt. Whew!

Okay, now it gets weird. Higazy has the gall to be pissed! The nerve of the guy. Anyway, he decides to sue the hotel and the FBI agent who beat coerced the confession out of him. (It not being possible to sue the government.) The decision from Court of Appeals hits the government website like all of these things and then of course is quickly deleted. Top Secret don't ya know. A blogger posts about it and the court actually contacts the blogger and asks them to remove it because it's classified. I am going to try that on my wife, sorry honey can't tell you how I screwed up the laptop, its classified just how stupid I am.

The story is from blogger Steve Bergstein who picked up on the story.

Clearly this is reason #137 why you don't torture. The value of information you get is shit. Torture doesn't work. I don't know how many times I have to say it. This isn't an episode of 24. This isn't a video game.

TSA asking tourists to take bombs on planes

This is so mind-numbingly stupid.

At San Diego International Airport, tests are run by passengers whom local TSA managers ask to carry a fake bomb, said screener Cris Soulia, an official in a screeners union. via Schneier on Security

This knuckleheaded-ness came to light when it was revealed that 60%-70% of the TSA Airport bomb checkers miss finding fake explosives during tests.
Howe said the increased difficulty explains why screeners at Los Angeles and Chicago O'Hare airports failed to find more than 60% of fake explosives that TSA agents tried to get through checkpoints last year.
The failure rates -- about 75% at Los Angeles and 60% at O'Hare -- are higher than some tests of screeners a few years ago and equivalent to other previous tests.

Its the freaking Keystone Cops. How long before somebody takes 5 to the noggin for helping out some guy with a laminated TSA ID card. Its not like terrorists are clever enough to dress up like TSA managers. No, they would never think of that. Regardless though, somebody is going to get shot.

Have I mentioned recently that the entire Fatherland Homeland Security division was Joe Lieberman's idea? This massive boondoggle needs to be shut down. We can't bring water on a plane, but the TSA are asking Bob and Ida from Des Moines to take some plastique into economy class. WTF.

"Al Qaeda" Loose in America!!!?!?!??!??!?!?!

Al Qaeda Cell May Be Loose in U.S., British Plot Hints

the counterterrorism official said on condition of anonymity. "This plot helps to connect a lot of stuff. We have seen money moving a lot through hawala networks and other illicit finance as well." But this source was careful to say that at this point no specific information, such as names, targets or a timeline, was known about any particular plot on American soil. The e-mail addresses that are linked to Americans were pseudonyms

pseudonyms! damn what will these diabolical bastards think of next

Look at the bright side, we can spy on their calls now!

Al Qaeda, Al Qaeda, Al Qaeda

Regional Terrorists vs. Global Terrorists

We've all heard the language drums playing out the Al-Qaeda tune of over the recent months. Trying desperately to paint Iraqi insurgents with the same brush as Al Qaeda who attacked us on 9/11. To be honest the administration and its lickspittle sycophant partners in the MSM have been doing a good job. People have been buying into the 'frame' if you will pardon the slight pun.

But what are the actual numbers of the really, really, scary AQIZ supermen.

hmmm.... 4%.... they must be real badasses...

But look at that EFFING HUGE green area. That consists of conventional forces facing us. Ex Army, Ex Bathist types, former Republican National Guard etc.You know, the ones that we sent home, armed to the teeth. Thanks Unka Jerry! These are the people we should actually be focusing on. For me, and maybe it’s my training, but I find the attempted linkage between Al Qaeda and AQIZ ridiculous and dangerously distracting. Not just from what we should be focusing on in Iraq, but what we should be doing fighting terrorism worldwide.

The thing that made Al Qaeda such a unique organization is that it is a Global Terrorist Group. I wanted to write 'it was' but sadly due to the incompetent handling of the counter terrorism efforts by the administration Al Qaeda is just about back to full strength. But again they are unique. What we are seeing in Iraq is yet another Regional Terrorist Group. This is more what everyone is familiar with. Remember the terrorist groups from the 70's and 80's, Baader Meinhoff, The Red Brigades, JRA... etc. These are regional based groups. Their beef is usually with some country’s government. Al Qaeda took it to the next level. They went global. Which is what made it so dangerous and left us unable to predict behavior. The U.S. counter terrorist people had never seen this before.

So when the Whitehouse is rambling on about AQIZ (Al Qaeda in Iraq) remember they are talking about a Regional Terrorist Group. An entirely different animal, this is not a group that will 'follow us home'. That’s not the nature of a regional group. They will fade away to some degree when we leave and the remainder will be eliminated by the Iraqi Army over time. Unless of course whatever happens to be the Iraqi government provokes a fight or creates an environment that fosters their growth. But luckily the Iraqi government will not be a target of these groups by default. Its our troops who are their targets and like someone leaning against a wall, remove the wall and they fall down.

UPDATE: Case in point -- new story from McClatchy Al Qaida at renewed strength in Pakistan... we havent kept our eyes on the ball.

The al Qaida terrorist network has rebounded and is at its greatest strength since it was expelled from Afghanistan after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, a new top-level U.S. intelligence assessment concludes, U.S. officials said Wednesday
