Asymmetrical Warfare

538.com has been posting up some good stuff on the state of the health care debate, the tactics being used, and how these tactics are being reflected in the polls. Today this caught my eye...

allow me to suggest that what we are also witnessing here is an asymmetrical battle in which conservatives, Republicans, trade associations and other assorted opponents are adapting campaign strategies--and smear tactics in particular--to a policy debate. And, if you think about it, it's a pretty shrewd strategy to muddy the waters, provide disinformation, and in general try to scare people away from an idea--just as one might try to deter them from voting for a candidate in an election campaign. (read the rest)

We should have seen this coming, and been ready sooner. The GOP knows only one strategy that they have perfected in the last 10 years, deceit and misinformation- waged always like a political campaign. This approach to the very real and urgent need for policy and legislation is so cynical and uncaring as to stagger me. But there it is. We should expect it. All the time. Prepare for it. And push back hard.

They are the party of lies and of saying no to the American people and yes to big corporations and their rich friends. We are still being swiftboated at every turn. Time to sink some boats.

Swift Boat Distractions and Phony Controversy Every 4 years

Putting lipstick on a pig-- is a slang rhetorical expression, used to convey the message that making superficial or cosmetic changes is a futile attempt to disguise the true nature of a product.

This latest bruhaha "piggie-gate" I'm calling it, is so blatantly more of the same same same old b-s.

For all our readers and fellow Dems who are complaining thatObama-Biden are not coming out strong enough, this one is pretty damn good.

I am also a fan of laughing at them first, then tearing them apart and finally bringing it back to what matters. We simply must not lose this election. Today after work I am cleaning up phone banking lists, setting up calls for this Sunday night AND doing a voter assistance table at a peace event (It is 9/11 already here in Japan.) I can't stand it any more.
McCain's campaign said Obama's remarks were offensive and a slap at Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin -- despite the fact that the Arizona senator himself used the phrase last year to describe a policy proposal of Hillary Clinton's.- CNN
Enough in Enough- Barack Obama

Fighting Back Against Swift Boat, Scum Bag Lies

The Obama campaign has a rapid response site set up to fight the Corsi book (what a waste of trees.) I am pleased that this year the Dems are striking back. A lot of the rebuttal ammo is coming from those great people at Media Matters!

Take a look, and if you think this book is as disgusting AND stupid as I do; write some letters. Then tell your friends. I am so sick and tired of Corsi and his ilk and the right wing welfare mechanism that provides for these liars and cheats-- gives them a 24/7 mic on fox and buys enough copies for the mailing list of the Heritage Foundation just to try to push their half-assed attempts at writing onto the NY Times Bestseller list. Quite a racket.

More on Corsi from the Frameshop as well.
