This Is Big Stuff

Major Discovery From MIT Promises Solar Revolution

In a revolutionary leap that could transform solar power from a marginal, boutique alternative into a mainstream energy source, MIT researchers have overcome a major barrier to large-scale solar power: storing energy for use when the sun doesn't shine.

Storage of solar generated power has always been the big fooler in the solar energy process. Excess was either sold back into the grid, or lost forever.

The coolest, the very coolest part of this whole thing is that it began as a science fair project by the daughter of the lead scientist.

The project has just received a large cash award, and is predicting viable, working models in ten years.

We may be losing the cars to peak oil, but with projects like this, we can keep the lights on.
