Friday Random Ten - Name That Tune Edition

Warlock Red Electric Guitar dowloaded from Flickr, posted by skybluecrayon
(dig the look of triumph on that kid's face!)

This Game Started With Konagod

It looks like fun, especially since I have such an off the wall, and in some cases of live bootlegs, unparalled collection residing in the memory banks.

For those wanting to play the rules are simple, and of course, because that's how I roll, I will modify the rules almost as soon as I type them down for everybody else to read.

les rules:
1. put your mp3 player or computer music player on random.
2. post the first four lines from the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song (skip repeat artists & instrumentals *duh*).
3. post, and let your friends guess which song and artist the lines come from.
4. NO googling!

This will be done off my "My Music" stash (which has its very own 60gig drive) on Shuffle.
10 songs
Name that tune, artist if you can, but the tune will suffice. (unless artist is specified)

No goddamned Googling!

1. drbopperthp gets this one, which I figured ya'll would get right away

Velvet Underground - Walk It Talk It

You better walk it
And talk it less you lose that beat
Better lose yourself mama
And knock yourself right off of your feet

2. John Law - Dropkick Murphys (artist required)

Now let me tell you about a man named John Law
He's a neighborhood cop, the toughest man I ever saw
A man who knows his duty, a man with a gun
To the people in the neighborhood John Law is number one

3. Correct as to the artist - Tom Waits - title is still unknown 3/4 point to tata for correctly guessing album and artist Jockey Full of Bourbon That was a tough one, Waits' songs usually have the title said early and clearly. Half point to everybody who got the album and artist right.

Edna million in a drop dead suit
Dutch pink on a downtown train
Two-dollar pistol but the gun wont shoot
I'm in the corner on the pouring rain

4. I Tried to Leave You - Leonard Cohen

I tried to leave you, I don't deny
I closed the book on us, at least a hundred times.
I'd wake up every morning by your side.
The years go by, you lose your pride.

5. Two More Bottles of Wine - named by Ktsibios - artist Delbert McClinton
(live bootleg, The Murph, San Diego, me on snotty guitar)

We came out west together with a common desire
The fever we had might have set the west coast on fire
Two months later got trouble in mind
Baby took off leaving me behind

6. Rhumba Man - Jesse Winchester (live bootleg at El Macumbo, Montreal, me on guitar but that's not a hint)

I'm the same old guy that I used to be
I haven't changed at all
I got the same old walk and the same old talk
That would run you up the wall

7. Nailed by Doug Alder - Gimme a Pigfoot (this was Bessie Smith "Empress of the Blues")

Up in Harlem every Saturday night
When the highbrows get together its just so right
They all congregate at an all night hop
And what they do is Oo Bop Bee Dop

8. Kokomo - B.W. (Buckwheat) Stevenson

Your paintings are all crooked I'm afraid you've been mistooken
If you think I'm crazy don't you take another look
Wild is in the forest, the fire's in the well
The ranks are on a sailing ship wondering where the hell is hell

9. Gotten by Professor Fate: Jimi Hendrix - Love, or Confusion

Is that the stars in the sky, or is it, rain fallin down
Will it burn me if I touch the sun, yeah, so big, so round
Would I be truthful, yeah, in, uh,
In chosing you as the one for me?

10. The Irish Rover (this was the Dubliners/Pogues version which started out the vocals with the Dubliners, singing the original lyric) Point Gabe Nichols

In the year of our Lord, eighteen hundred and six
We set sail from the sweet cove of Cork
We were sailing away with a cargo of bricks
For the grand city hall in New York

There you go. Have at it. Remember, No Goddamned Googling.

I'm pretty damned impressed with Ya'll.
