Bush Memoirs-- Publishers are Less than Eager

Poor George.

It seems that when it comes to post-presidential book deals, The Bush Years are not in high demand.

The Seattle Times puts it gently this way;

"If I were advising President Bush, given how the public feels about him right now, I think patience would probably be something that I would encourage," says Paul Bogaards, executive director of publicity for Alfred A. Knopf, which in 2004 released Bill Clinton's million-selling "My Life." (snip)

In a poor economy, it's not a great time for anyone to shop a book, and certainly not for a deeply unpopular president. Bush's approval ratings are in the 20s and Republicans are at a low moment after Tuesday night, when Obama defeated Sen. John McCain by a convincing margin and Democrats expanded majorities in Congress.

If this is true then I am going to reaffirm my belief in Karama.

I know I have absolutely zero interest in ever (in my lifetime) buying a book written by this war criminal and craven, morally bankrupt man. If I never have to see him or listen to him again it would be too soon. I can't wait for 1/19/2009 and when we can be rid of this idiot.

FLYP, pretty damn cool online magazine technology

Check out the launch of a brand spanking new, online magazine format. I "flyp'd" through and found it pretty engaging. The electability article was refreshing, and I generally liked the tone of voice through-out.

Flyp combines video, text, animation, high-quality design and interactivity in a new kind of storytelling that blends the best from the world of print with the latest from the Web.

Give it a whirl, would love to hear what you think. Still need to do some due diligence on the team putting it together, including publisher Alan Stoga. (some BNL past strangeness) But looking at the format and the technology-- I think it is a pretty compelling use of the tools. Something like this as a joint project of some of our best known bloggers would be a pretty dynamic platform for progressive voices.
