The Hardships of the Rich

I feel so bad for Cindy today, her life must be so difficult. It turns out that she has not paid her property taxes on a La Jolla condo for about 4 years.

When you’re poor, it can be hard to pay the bills. When you’re rich, it’s hard to keep track of all the bills that need paying. It’s a lesson Cindy McCain learned the hard way when NEWSWEEK raised questions about an overdue property-tax bill on a La Jolla, Calif., property owned by a trust that she oversees. […]

County officials say the trust still owes an additional $1,742 for this year, an amount that is overdue and will go into default July 1. Told of the outstanding $1,742, the aide said: “The trust has paid all bills shown owing as of today and will pay all other bills due."- Newsweek
They just keep making it easy. I mean really-- gee, I am so rich it is hard to remember to pay all my bills? For FOUR years? Damn, I wish I had those kind of hardships to deal with.

Blackwater Evading Taxes?

I am shocked to find out Hauptsturmführer Prince has maybe defrauded the government and evaded paying taxes. America, God, and Apple Pie.

Lawmakers say embattled Blackwater USA, a private security firm that operates in Iraq and Afghanistan, may have defrauded the government out of millions in taxes.

The Democratic chairman of a House watchdog committee says the Internal Revenue Service disputes Blackwater's claimed exemption from Social Security and other employee taxes for contract workers. --newsoxy.com

Typical of these holier than thou types, it's all sneering Christian righteousness until you scratch the surface, and then it's how much money can I send off-shore.

These guys had the balls to try and set up a mercenary training camp in San Diego? I bet they filed for tax breaks on the property too. America does not like mercenaries, and they don't like Blackwater. The clock is ticking on these clowns.

The Chicago Way

I told you he wasn't that bright.

Either last year or early this year (it's not clear from the letter), a former Blackwater guard sought to determine whether the tax code designates him a Blackwater employee, which would entitle him to compensation for the money he spent paying his own taxes in 2005. The company received the IRS arbitration in March: the services rendered by the ex-guard for the company in Iraq qualified him as an employee. That would explain why the non-Blackwater private guards in Iraq on the same State Department contract, working for DynCorp and Triple Canopy, work as full-time employees of their companies, which take care of their tax liability. -- TPMMuckracker.com

It already looks like they will have to pay all those back taxes, which will bankrupt Blackwater. If they can find that they set up the structure to have contractors instead of employee's then it's tax evasion. Even if they just were talking about "avoiding" taxes then its tax fraud In which case Hauptsturmführer Prince is going to the big house, for a long time.
