I don't want to politicize Memorial day, but I hear a lot of reasons from the left about why John McCain would be a bad president. I agree with all if it. Especially that he is doing Ambien© all the time. That's pretty bad if you want to run the most powerful nation on earth. However, before his visit to Baghdad in April 2007 the only thing I had against him really was that he was old as shit. I always figured the "Maverick" thing was bullshit, but I didn't dislike the geezer.
No, I actively started disliking the Senator from Arizona when, like Bush does, he draped himself in soldiers. This time with 2 companies and 5 helicopters of the 101st Airborne in order to make a political ad, and to make his point that it was safe in Baghdad. Which or course it really wasn't. I don't think any vet missed the point of that exercise. John McCain was more than happy to put soldiers lives at risk in order to further his political goals.
I honor John McCain's service to his country, and it's time for him to retire.

Flashback II: Northwest Detroit To Baghdad

Sharon Wienberger at DANGER ROOM reminds me of this ridiculous horseshit.
May 31 2003--WASHINGTON--Northwest Airlines soon could receive government permission to begin service to Baghdad, following Friday's announcement the United States is ending its nearly 13-year ban on flights to Iraq.Good times, good times. I wonder if Northwest has any flights to Palestine? There's more...
If approved, Northwest would begin DC10 service an undetermined number of times a week from Detroit...

Kill Them All
I had never seen this video that Atrios had posted up of Thomas Friedman. I love these guys who earn the Combat Infantry Badges from behind a pundit's desk. Friedman sounds like a lunatic.
It reminded me of the email forwarded to me yesterday from a wingnut I used to serve with:
Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001?
Were people from all over the world, mostly Americans, not brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan , across the Potomac from our nation's capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania ?
Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they?
And I'm supposed to care that a copy of the Koran was 'desecrated' when an overworked American soldier kicked it or got it wet?...Well, I don't. I don't care at all.
I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.
I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere possession of which is a crime in Saudi Arabia
I'll care when these thugs tell the world they are sorry for chopping off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling slashed throat.
I'll care when the cowardly so-called 'insurgents' in Iraq come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques.
I'll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in search of nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide .
I'll care when the American media stops pretending that their First Amendment liberties are somehow derived from international law instead of the United States Constitution's Bill of Rights.
It goes on and on and on like this, (why are these people so long winded?)
It seems to me that both Friedman and whatever dullard wrote the above jingoistic tripe, shat their pants on 9/11. That single event so defines them that it drives all their other emotions. Blinding them from seeing some very simple truths. Firstly, Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Killing the entire Muslim world isn't going to solve the Global Terrorism problem, beside the fact that there are like 9 billion muslims and we aren't 12 year olds. You fight terrorism in a certain way. The strategies that allowed us to break up the Regional Terrorism in the 70's and 80's still work today.
You certainly don't do it by invading England when Japan bombs Pearl Harbor. If we were serious about fighting Global Sunni Terrorism, and I mean really serious, we would have not replaced Saddam with chaos central, the worlds terrorist training ground. We would have bought his help. He was no friend to Al Qaeda.
Not to mention instead of fantasizing about attacking Iran, which is no more than a pipe dream, unless we want to lose a entire army and a bunch of really big boats. Don't forget they fielded 3,000,000 in the Iraq-Iran war and, of course, we have no reason to attack Iran. It's clear the Iraqi's are more than capable of making, all on their own, what amounts to a copper hubcab, regardless of whatever pops into Dick Cheney's fevered mind at any point in time. They are no more involved in the fighting in Iraq than the Saudi's, perhaps less so.
No, if the Bush administration gave a damn about Global Terrorism we would go into Pakistan not Iran. We would find Bin Laden. Remember him? How come they care less about the sovereignty of Iraq or Iran than they do about Pakistan?

ABC News Hates America
Now we hear that ABC tracked down the pro-Hillary looney who ABC cut to, in order for her to ask why Obama spits on the flag doesn't wear a flag pin.
If you add up the Disney/ABC News Path to 9/11 with this clearly contrived debate about Pastor Wright, Flag Pins, Bosnian Snipers, a bunch of Hannity questions, faked questioners. You have a right wing group of executives at ABC News who are the second coming of Clear Channel Communications.
In addition to the Fox News ban the candidates somewhat adhere to, we need to add a ABC News ban. Fuck ABC News.
I am tired of these right wing jackasses trying to impose their vision of the GOP's Amerikkka on everybody else. Enough.

Phenomenal!

This is a picture of the clean up from the bomb in Shiite city of Karbala, over 52 dead and close to 100 wounded.
And we have McCain wandering around talking about Iranians hiding under desks... These people are blithering idiots.

McCain in Baghdad

So, if its so safe in Baghdad, if the "Surge" is working so well why couldn't Baghdad John get over to Shorja market? Couldn't they get some more Apaches? Or did they have a hard time getting any of the boys from the 101st to "volunteer"?
Our answer comes from CNN:
They didn’t believe it was safe for an American to be in that area. -- CNN Reporting.
That seems like it should be the description of the whole damn country.

Time's Mark Halperin -- Republican Tool
Look at this bullshit picture Mark Halperin has up at Time/CNN's "The Page". It's Clinton and Obama with a Muslim flag transparently across their faces. Yes it's Iraq's flag, but how many people know what Iraq's flag looks like? Clearly we are supposed to see a terrorist flag. This is ridiculous, a site like Time.com putting up this asinine Democrats=Terrorist message.
Michael Shaw at BAGnewsNotes caught Halperin photo-shopping Obama into the old picture of the Rat Pack, as Sammy Davis. This is outrageous. This sort of divisive bullshit has to end. How loud would the right scream if Time put up a picture of Bush with the Nazi flag in the foreground? It would be deafening...

John McCain, Manchurian Candidate

There has been this persistent rumor about John McCain. That he was tortured by the North Vietnamese into being a Manchurian Candidate, like in the movie, and no I am not talking about the crappy remake. I am referring to the Sinatra movie. Where a veteran was brainwashed into trying to assassinate the president. So, McCain is running for president because it's much easier to kill yourself I guess.
Yes, this is the sort of thing that really stupid people send around and I mean really stupid. I hate these people. None of them send me these anymore, because my response is really not that.... measured.
Those same people are now sending around another email now. Obama is a Weather Underground Communist Muslim Bomber. Apparently because his brothers dog once pee'd on a fence that was owned by a guy who I think is in the background of picture below, anyway, this guy knew a guy who might have been involved, and was totally not trying to score with any of the chicks hanging around revolutionary headquarters.
Some of these stupid people who are sending this email around work at CNN and some of them are named Nedra Pickler, and some of them are named Larry Johnson. The premise about Barack Obama is that he is so anti-American, and sooooo secretly a Weather Underground guy that he is running for president. I shit you not. He is so unpatriotic that he is going to try to be elected President of The United States of America. These people should wear soft leather helmets when they go outdoors.
